Kuuvik Capture 2 Coming This Summer

On 30th of April I had completed the acquisition of Kuuvik Capture. Although I was the original author, pecuniary rights (to sell and make money out of it) belonged to Kuuvik Digital. Now I’m the owner and my company – DIRE Studio – will distribute the app.

Alongside the business part of the acquisition, I have been actively working on a new version during the last couple of months. And now I’m pleased to announce Kuuvik Capture 2.

Here’s a quick laundry list of what’s new. Check out my post about what’s new in the Beta 2!

I plan to post on these in detail in the coming weeks.

Kuuvik Capture 2 is planned to be available in the Mac App Store. That is, there will be no limit on the number of cameras you can use with the app. And you will be able to use the app on all your Macs.

A closed group, application only beta will be available soon. I’ll post on how to apply when we are ready to begin.

This site is made possible by the people downloading my apps - thank you all! I neither beg you to purchase goods through my site nor display advertisements, but if you find my writings useful or entertaining, I would encourage you to check out my tools that may make your life as a photographer or cinematographer easier and more productive.

  1. Hi Laszlo,
first of all congratulation on your acquisition of Kuuvik Capture!

In version 2 will you add the Canon Speedlite control as on Canon EOS Utility app?

    Thanks for your attention.

  2. Dear Reader,

Supposing there will be no Windows version for capture 2.
What is the minimum Apple configuration needed, so i can look for a secondhand one just for capturing.

    • Laszlo Pusztai says:

      Dear Toine,

The minimum requirements are not finalized yet, but the absolute minimum is the hardware needed to run OS X 10.9 (which is the minimum OS requirement). It’s available at: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201364

It runs on machines with a Geekbench score of 1400 (32-bit single core) / 1500 (64-bit single core) or higher. https://browser.primatelabs.com/mac-benchmarks
I would recommend a machine with an i5 or i7 processor and 4GB RAM. That would allow to run your raw processing software along Kuuvik Capture.

A fast GPU is a plus.

Regarding RAM, the app needs less than 700MB even with the huge 50 megapixel 5DS R files (note that 5DS/5DS R cameras are not supported at the moment, it’s just a figure we obtained while preparing support for these cameras).

For a comparison, my field notebook is a 11″ Early 2014 MacBook Air with a 1.4GHz i5 and 8GB of RAM – and it works very well. One of our test machines is a 2.53GHz Late 2009 Mac mini (Core 2 Duo), which is pretty much maxed out on the processor front with the app.

    Hi Lazslo,

Please add support for the new Canon 5DS/5DS R.

    Thank you.
