This is one of my favorite images from this year’s late spring purple heron season. A sneak peek into the home of the herons.
Shot through dense reeds in the burning late afternoon light, it was an amazing performance from the Canon EOS 7D Mark II and the 500/4 IS II lens.
I had to manually pre-focus and used spot AF to get the sharpest image possible. Of course the few meters thick reed wall took its toll on resolution, but despite this I’m very satisfied with the results. The color rendering of this lens is simply stunning.
